All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mr. James Carson Rivers Mr. James Carson Rivers, 65, died peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on Thursday, Feb. 4, following a brief illness. He was born March 29, 1933, in Zwolle. Rivers was one of nine children born to the late Ben and Kat Rivers. He received his high school education, and graduated from Ebarb High School in May, 1951. The following October, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He did extensive traveling with the 2nd Air Force Assistance Team, and the Base Rifle and Pistol Team. Rivers also served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air force in 1971, with 20 years service, and two years with the National Guard. He then went into the logging business, and was the owner of J. C. & E. Enterprise, Inc. Logging was his current profession. He and his wife of 45 years, Elaine, are the parents of 12 children. Although family and friends were important, Mr. Rivers dedicated much of his time to the community. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Zwolle for many years. Over the years, he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Trustee, and served on the Pastoral Council, and always helped out with the Monday Night Bingo. Mr. Carson always enjoyed very much working with the young people, and had a great love for baseball. He dedicated much of his spare time to the Dixie Youth Baseball Program. He served one year as president of the Sabine Parish Dixie Youth, and was the present vice president of the Sabine Dixie Youth. Mr. Carson has also served the past eight years, as President of the Zwolle Dixie Youth. Mr. Carson loved his family and friends, fishing, hunting, and most of all, nature. He was also the 1998-99 Tamale Fiesta King. Mr. Rivers was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Kate Rivers of Zwolle. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; one daughter, Pam Rivers of Zwolle; 11 sons, Randall Rivers and wife Ava of Shreveport, Jerry Rivers, Jackie Rivers and wife Faye Lynn, Rodney Rivers and wife Billie, Robin Rivers and wife Debbie, and Benjamin Rivers and wife Carol, all of Zwolle, David Rivers and wife Denise of Noble, Tom Rivers of Zwolle, Tim Rivers of Shreveport, Barry Rivers and wife Kari of Hemphill, Texas, and Chris Rivers of Zwolle; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters, Helen Elliott, Longstreet, Elaine Keith, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Carolyn Sue Hedley of San Antonio, Texas; five brothers, John E. Rivers, Pat Rivers, Jimmy Rivers, and Roger Rivers, all of Zwolle, and Ben H. Rivers of Bossier City. Pallbearers were Sam A. Rivers Jr., Donald H. Remedies, Keith Rivers, Freddie Rivers, Raymond Ezernack, Bill Williams, Doug Patrick, and Ricky McConnell. Mr. Rivers was a man that lived a life of serving his country, his parish, his town, and his community. He was a true leader of the people. Services for Mr. Rivers were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Zwolle. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
