All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Versey Roberts Funeral services for Versey Roberts, 68, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 26, at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Bradley Creed, Rev. Dyess, and Rev. Clovis Sturdivant officiating. Burial followed in Memory Lawn Cemetery, under direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Roberts died Saturday, August 24, at 3 a.m., at Schumpert Medical Center. He was a native of Quentin, Miss., and had been a resident of Natchitoches for the past 45 years. Mr. Roberts got his start in the lumber business in Quentin before World War II. After serving in World War II with the U. S. air Force, he came to Louisiana, where he started his own timber business in 1955, and later started his own hardwood lumber business. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist church in Natchitoches, and was very active in community and non-profit organizations. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maxine Roberts of Natchitoches; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Joe Bernard of Natchitoches, and Kathy and Andy Jenkins of Marthaville; granddaughter and grand son-in-law, Jennifer and Brian Olliff of Natchitoches; other grandchildren, Justin and Taylor Bernard, both of Natchitoches, and Allison Jenkins of Marthaville; one sister, Lillie Mae Moak of Brookhaven, Miss.; two brothers, Neal Roberts of Bude, Miss., and Clyde Roberts of Biloxi, Miss. Pallbearers were Mike Solice, Randall McElwee, Richard Foshee, Don Winn, Keith French, and Bill Crews. Honorary pallbearers were Judge Peyton Cunningham, Sheriff Boyd B. Durr, Aubrey Hardy, Raymond Floyd, W. L. Davis, Bill McCauslin, Barnette Durr, and Johnny Bradford.
