All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Salem Rayburn 7 Feb 1941 - Salem Rayburn passed away in the Charity hospital at Shreveport on the morning of January 31 at 5:45 a.m. and was buried in the Self graveyard near Hornbeck February 1. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gray, Pastor of the Methodist church of Hornbeck, assisted by Rev. H. E. Chance and others. Mr. Rayburn was one of the best citizens of his community, quiet, thoughtful and willing to help carry on in his church and community and do his part well. He desired to do the right thing by all with whom he came in contact. He was born in Louisiana but had lived in western Texas, New Mexico and Arizona when a young man but returned and made his home near Hornbeck. It is said of him that he was a mighty good man and those who knew him best knew that to be so. Our country needs more men like he was. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Pearl Davis of Hornbeck; one son, Grove Rayburn of Hornbeck and five brothers, W. H. and Steve Rayburn of Hornbeck, Oal and Jahn Rayburn of Albuquerque, N. M. and Marvin Rayburn of Port Arthur, Texas, besides a host of relatives and friends.
