Funeral services by the Rev. Clyde Frazier, and Masonic Rites, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 1990, at Tharp-Southeimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Boulevard, Metairie, La., followed with burial at the Masonic Cemetery. Dr. Russo was born Nov. 1, 1922, in New Orleans, to the late Dr. Anthony Russo, and Dr. Nellie Apken Russo. He was of the Presbyterian Faith, and served in WWII, with the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater, as Chief Engineer. He attended Rugby Military Academy, Tulane University, and Southern College of Optometry, and practiced optometry for thirty seven years. Dr. Russo was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and long standing member of Metairie Lodge #444 F and AM, Jerusalem Temple AAONMS of New Orleans, La., Farhad Grotto MOVPER, Concorde Chapter order of Demolay, International Association of Lions Clubs, La., Lions Past District Governor's Organization, and numerous service and optometric organizations. He was also a member of the Italian-American Society of Jefferson Parish. Dr. Russo was preceded in death by a son, William Leon Russo. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Lillian Walden Russo, and daughter, Janet Stephens, wife of Arch G. Stephens of Many; sister, Dr. Joyce L. Adema of New Orleans; brother, Dr. Walter C. Russo and wife Earline of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; and many friends. Pallbearers were Arch G. Stephens, James L. White II, Michael W. White, Terrence B. Hicks, James D. Stephens, Gary G. Colle, Dr. Pat Adams, and Eddie Schneller. Family requests memorials be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, or Lions Crippled Children's Camp, or the Charity of the donors choice.
