Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Deloach, and Rev. Earl Marr officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Miss Ricks died Wednesday, August 12, 1992, at the Sabine Medical Center in Many. She was born January 9, 1907, at Middlecreek near Florien, to William A. and Joanna Owens Ricks. Her greatest devotions were to her family, and hundreds of first graders she taught - especially those needing her help the most, her church, and her flowers. Her compassion was always readily at hand, for she was the most humble and gracious of persons. During her courageous struggle with illness, her sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews gained an even greater respect for the exemplary life that she lived. Her courage is best described by Philippians 4:11, "I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." Miss Ricks was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Cole; and three brothers, J. B., Oscar, and Julian Ricks. She is survived by a sister, Willie Mae Bolton of Peoria, Ill.; and a brother W. A. Ricks of Mt. Carmel. Pallbearers were her nephews. The family wishes to give special thanks to those that cared for her during those trying times these past two and a half years.
