Albert Richardson, III, born Oct. 4, 1930 in Shreveport, died May 20, 1999. The Rev. Richardson, who was a Roman Catholic priest of the Louisiana Province, Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, worked for many years as a chaplain at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport. He also served as a chaplain at St. Patrick's Medical Center in Lake Charles, as well as Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He often substituted at St. John's in Many. His education included a B. S., 1953, M. A. in 1955 and a Ph.D., in Biochemistry, 1957 from Southern Methodist University. He held a masters degree in Theology from Notre Dame Seminary, 1983. He was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America. Before becoming a priest in 1983, Fr. Richardson was Assistant Director of Nutrition for Texas Women's University; Professor of Nutrition and Medical Writing at Southwestern Medical School and Baylor Medical School until 1961, when he became Director of Nutrition Research for Borden Industries, New York, Chicago and Houston. In 1967 Dr. Richardson became Director of Nutrition Research for the NASA Space Program until leaving that position in 1978 to begin his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained in 1983 and served at St. Francis DeSales Cathedral in Houma, St. Mary's Nativity Church in Raceland, and St. Joseph's Church in Galliano. Fr. Richardson was well known as a homilist and priest in the Shreveport area. Fr. Richardson was a member of a well known, prominent and philanthropic Louisiana family. He was connected by birth and lineage to several of the most important families in America. He is enlisted in American Men of Science, Men of Achievement, Dictionary of International Biographies, Personalities of the South and the National Social Directory. He was a member of The Order of the Cincinnati, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Confederacy and was knighted by the Vatican as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem in 1990. He served as a chaplain of the Marian Council of the Knights of Columbus for several years. His memberships include: Certified Chaplain, College of Chaplains, Certified Chaplain, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Gemological Society, International Art Appraisers Society, American Gem Society, the Board of Directors of Modern American Verse, and the Board of Directors of the International Antiquarian Society. Interment was private. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection, con-celebrated by Priests of the Diocese, was celebrated at St. John Berchman's Cathedral, where Fr.
