Rains of Ponder Street in Many, died at Heritage Manor Nursing Home at 11 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 1983, after a long illness. Surviving Mrs. Rains, in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Melba Rains Bartschmid, Austin, Tex., Betty Rains Rogers, Lake Charles, Nelwyn Rains Stuart, New Orleans; one son, Ted Rains of Golden, Colorado; a sister, Alice Skinner Foster, Nederland, Tex.; and a brother, J. Douglas Skinner of Toro. Other survivors are 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews, including John R. Skinner of Many. Preceding her in death were two half brothers, Emmett Thomas, and Benny Thomas, both of Hornbook; and a sister, Maggie Skinner Brewster of Lake Charles. Mrs. Rains, daughter of the late John J., and Salena E. Skinner, was born in the Toro area, lived 40 years in Red River and DeSoto Parishes, and had lived in Many during the past 21 years. Services for Mrs. Rains were held in the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many, on Sunday, October 16, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Joe Ratcliff officiating. Interment was in the Pisgah Cemetery in Ward 2 near Toro. Arrangements were under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
