All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Elmer Rains Graveside services were held at Spring Ridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, La., on Saturday, September 26, 1992, at 1 p.m., for Elmer Rains, 80, of Shreveport. Officiating was Rev. Douglas Bumley, pastor of Janet Lane Baptist Church. Mr. Rains passed away on Friday, September 25, 1992, in Shreveport, after a brief illness. Born in Marthaville, La., he had been a resident of Shreveport for over 50 years. He attended Janet Lane Baptist Church, and was retired from the Texas and Pacific Railroad. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Mae Dyes Rains. He is survived by three daughters, Dean DeHart and her husband John, Mary Varnell and her husband Hubert, Lee Phillips and her husband Dale, all of Shreveport; five sons, Sam Rains and his wife Floye of Shreveport, George Rains of Longview, Texas, Bennie Rains of Houston, Texas, Dannie Rains, and Donnie Rains, both of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; one sister, Maggie Golden of Baton Rouge, La.; and one brother, Boyd Rains of Natchitoches, La. Pallbearers were Hubert Varnell, Terry Ponder, Dale Phillips, Ed Thomason, John DeHart, and Ronald Dyes. The family requests memorials be made to the Spring Ridge Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, La. 71065. Services were under the direction of Wellman Funeral Home.
