Funeral services were at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many on Monday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Joe Ratcliff. Interment was at the Marthaville Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dixon Rains, in 1966 and a son Carrol Dixon Rains in 1957. She and her husband operated the Rains Hotel in Marthaville and the farm in Rocky Springs Community until 1928 when they moved to Many; and operated the Rains Hotel there until 1966. Then Bertha kept roomers until 1984. Mrs. Rains was a member of the First Baptist Church of Many, and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star-for which she received her 50 year pin in 1986-and was always very active in that organization until a few years ago. She was one of seven children-having three brothers and three sisters. Their parents were William Draper Dixon and Charity Elviry Hathaway. The family and dates of birth were Curtis Dixon, Dec. 28, 1884; Effie Dixon, Feb. 17, 1886; Julius Dixon, Sept. 3, 1889; Mason Dixon, Dec. 24, 1890; Bertha Dixon, Nov. 26, 1892; Offa Dixon, Apr. 2, 1899; and Helen Dixon, May 27, 1902. Mrs. Rains was the last survivor of this family. Bertha will always be remembered by the delicious meals she prepared and the charming disposition she had-always a smile and a kind word for everyone, and always a helping hand to those in need. Survivors are two daughters; Elvie Campbell in Marthaville and Argerine Taylor of Shreveport; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Her family will cherish the memories of her loving and generous manner, her acceptance of the challenges of life, and a zest for its living. Pallbearers were W. E. "Boots" Hayes, Melvin Wright, Joe DeBose, O. B. Campbell, Steve Rains and Johnny Webb.
