Three other person were shot, and one person was shot at. Danny Remedies, 21, of Zwolle, is dead as the result of a shoot-out at the Driftwood Tavern Friday night, according to Sabine Parish Sheriff George R. Cook. The Tavern is owned by David Hicks, and is located on the Carter's Ferry Road in Ward 5, adjacent to the Driftwood Motel, Restaurant, and Lounge, but they are not connected. Sheriff's Deputy Wayne Turner said the Department received the call at 1 a.m., and he immediately went to the scene. At the scene, he found Danny Remedies dead. He had been shot with a .12 gauge shotgun, using single ought buckshot. He was hit in the left shoulder and chest, and was shot at 17 paces. His brother, Doyle (Monkey Man) Remedies, 24, of Zwolle was also shot in the left shoulder and face with buckshot. He was still at the scene, and was later taken to Fraser Hospital, and at 5 a.m., Saturday, transferred to Confederate Memorial in Shreveport. His condition was listed as critical. Charles Carter, a bartender at Driftwood Tavern, was shot in the upper right arm with squirrel shot, and was listed in guarded condition. He had already been transported to a hospital when Turner arrived at the scene. Hicks, who was still at the scene, was hit in the right arm with a few shots from the shotgun blast. Turner said upon arriving at the scene, he found two .12 gauge shotguns, which he immediately locked in the trunk of his patrol car. He next tried to find witnesses, but could not locate any eyewitnesses, but found several who had heard the shots. Turner found Hicks, 52, outside the place, and advised him to go inside to prevent any more trouble, as a crowd had gathered outside. The deputy said two cars had been shot, one had the right door window and back side window shot out, and the other had been shot in the hood. About 20 minutes after Turner arrived, Deputies Donald Bridges, and Walter Sculthorpe arrived at the scene, and went inside to talk with Hicks. Turner said of those involved, Hicks is the only one who has been questioned as of Wednesday morning. Hicks told deputies several months ago he had barred Doyle Remedies from coming in his place. He said they came in Friday night, and were put out. About 20 to 30 minutes later, Hicks said they came back with a gun. Someone, it was reported, had warned Hicks, and he and Carter went out the back door, Hicks with a shotgun, and Carter with a .38. The shooting then erupted in the parking lot on the east side of the building. Hicks has been charged with manslaughter, and a hearing was scheduled in 11th District Court Wednesday morning, to see if he would be released on bond. Turner said the case is still under investigation. The other murder was reported on the east side of Many Chief of Police Alfice Brumley said Doris Lee (Pete) Hayes is dead, and a second degree murder charge has been filed against Melvin (Duck) Sloan. Both are blacks. Brumley said a complaint was taken by the radio dispatcher at 11:52, Saturday night, that some shooting was going on at Louisiana St. Officers Dean Lambert, and Jimmy Kinney responded to the residence of Miriah Davis. Chief Brumley, and Asst. Chief Elwin Patterson came later. At the scene, the officers found Hayes lying on the ground. He had been shot in the back of the head with a 1 oz. Slug from a .12 gauge shotgun. He was dead on arrival at Fraser Hospital. Chief Brumley said from information received, Hayes and Sloan had been having some differences from which the shooting apparently evolved. Sloan was booked in city jail Saturday night, and transferred to the parish jail Sunday morning. No bond has been set. Pleasant Hill Chief of Police Willie Cobbs said a prowler was reported at a home in Pleasant hill over the weekend. The home owner reportedly shot at the prowler, but it is not know whether or not the prowler was hit.
