All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Mrs. Walker Speight 13 May 1938 - Mrs. Walker Speight, age about 43, was fatally injured Wednesday morning at about 9:40 when she attempted to cross the highway in front of her house, being run over by a log truck-trailer driven by Geo. Jordan of Fisher. The tragedy occurred near where Mrs. Speight operated a store at the forks of Pendleton and Negreet highways. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the Little Flock Baptist church with the Rev. W. J. Ross of Pleasant Hill conducting the services. The funeral was under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home. Deceased is survived by her husband, Walker Speight, and three small children, J. W., Ellery and Kenneth Speight; father and mother, Mr and Mrs. W. M. Burke of Ward Two; three sisters, Mrs. W. M. Meaux of Abbeville, Mrs. A. A. Speight of Gandy, Mrs. J. W. Speight, of Houston, Texas, and one brother, J. C. Burke of Houston, Texas.
