Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m., in Fort Jesup Cemetery, at Ft. Jesup, La. The Rev. Howard Cole, pastor of Kelley Memorial Baptist Church, officiated, and the Rev. Jerry Gill, pastor of Lakeshore Baptist Church, assisted. Mr. Speight, a native of Negreet, died at 12:58 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, 1986, in Willis-Knighton Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was a retired cement mason, a member of Kelley Memorial Baptist Church, and the Cement Mason's Local No. 903. He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. Speight, and Bertha Speight; and one brother, Igene Speight. Survivors include his wife, Martha Jo Leach Speight of Shreveport; eight children, Martha S. Hughs of Plain Dealing, Juanita S. Beckham, Jennifer S. Varnell of Keithville, Lavern S. Ashlock, Wayne W. Speight, Lisa S. Martin, all of Shreveport, Angie S. Drohan of Bossier City; two sisters, Audrey Walker of Jacksonville, N. C., Hattie Savell of Negreet; four brothers, Edward Speight, C. W. Speight, both of Negreet, Eugene Speight of Belmont, Cedric Speight of Fort Jesup; 14 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Randy Martin, Eddie Speight, David Speight, Stan Speight, Darrel Speight, and Charles Speight. Honorary pallbearers were T. Wray Smith, and Shorty Chambers.
