(Pierce) Sibley of Mansfield, were held at 3 p.m., Monday, August 7, at Rose-Neath Funeral Chapel in Mansfield, with the Rev. George Bannister, and the Rev. Steve Sallis officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Cemetery. Mr. Sibley, a native of Sabine Parish, Many, was born September 7, 1906, and was a resident of Mansfield for the past 48 years. Mr. Sibley died Saturday, August 5, at the age of 82 years, 11 months, at the DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield, following a brief illness. He was a retired machinist with Nabors Trailers. Mr. Sibley was a charter member of Emanuel Baptist Church, where he taught the Adult Men's Sunday School class for 42 years. Mr. Sibley also served as church treasurer for 44 years, and was a deacon for 46 years. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Carl Douglas Sibley; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. (Tuck) Sibley; five sisters, Bertha Duggan, Iva Felts, Elva Kelly, Claudia Merritt, and Anna Davenport; four brothers, Thomas Roy, Laurence, and Cecil Sibley. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Syble (Sowell) Sibley of Mansfield; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Sibley of Greenville, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Carl of Houston, Texas, James Jr. of Greer, South Carolina, and Chauntey; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Sibley, and Mrs. Verda Jones; and one brother-in-law, Rev. Dan Jones, all of Many; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ruth Sibley of Newport News, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers included Floyd Hayes, Joe Sloan, Billy Adams, Henry Sallis, Marvin Melton, Richard Salter, Randy Sallis, and Lawrence Wilson. The Rev. Ernest Lilley of Natchitoches, (founder of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and Mr. Sibley's pastor and close friend for many years), Talley Brown, and Defee (Pete) Nash, acted as honorary pallbearers. The family request that memorials be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, or to a charity of the donors choice. Much could be said about Mr. Sibley, but these few words say a lot. He was a devoted Christian husband and father, a highly respected citizen, and numbered his friends by his acquaintances. To know him was to love him.
