(Bill) Spier (Photo) Funeral services were held Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m., in the First Baptist Church in Many, for William L. Spier, (Bill), 22, with Rev. C. W. Williams, and the Rev. Coda Salter officiating. Burial was in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Funeral Home of Many. Bill was injured on an offshore drilling barge, Wednesday p.m., June 24, and taken to Morgan City for emergency treatment in a local hospital. He expired Thursday at 2:30 p.m., June 25, en route to a New Orleans hospital. A graduate of Many High School, and a senior at NSC, Natchitoches, Bill's family had lived in Many until they moved to 2026 Elizabeth St., Shreveport, in April of this year. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff L. Spier of Shreveport; a brother, Robert Lee Spier, West Point, New York; and his paternal grandfather, A. L. Spier of Shreveport. Active pallbearers were James Alfice Brumley, Floyd Fraser, James DeBose Jr., Jack McBride, Richard DeVargas, Leonard Abington, Sammy Hodge, Ruel Palmer, Harlon Wright, and N. B. Powell. Honorary pallbearers were George Cook, Doyle Carter, Garland Peterson, Dewitt Lafitte, Walker Alford, Jerry Hale, Tom Hale, Jimmy Hale, Don Lucius, Junior Palmer, Eugene Wright, Buddy Beasley, Tommy Quarles, Rev. C. G. Wells, Darien Basco, Doug Bush, Oscar Alford, Terry Brumley, Edwin Lites, officials of Barnwell Offshore Drilling Co. of New Orleans, the officials of the Morgan City District of the Sinclair Oil Co., and his fellow employees.
