Spears, 77, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, under the direction of Rose-Neath's Mansfield Chapel. Officiating were Dr. William Crosby, assisted by Bro. Lester Burleson. Interment followed in Highland Cemetery in Mansfield. Mrs. Spears departed this life to be with her Lord, July 25, at her residence in Mansfield. Mrs. Spears was born August 24, 1914, in Provencal, and was a lifelong resident of Mansfield. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, serving as Pre-School Sunday School Teacher, and Director for over 50 years. She was also a longtime member of the W.M.U. of First Baptist, and former chairman of the DeSoto Chapter of the American Heart Fund Association. She was a retired clerk for Ida's Dress Shop, having worked there, and at West Bros. Store for over 50 years. Mrs. Spears was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, and teacher of children, whom she loved. She was preceded in death by one son, James Ellis Spears. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ellis Spears of Mansfield; one son, Billy Spears and his wife Sherry of Converse; one daughter, Linda S. Sebren and her husband Kenneth of Noble; one brother, Cecil Key of Mansfield; one sister, Mrs. Macelle Talley of Pine Bluff; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ashton Long, Hugh Bennett Jr., Bob Meredith, Wesley Sebren, Horrace Wiggins, and Reggie Speights. Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Donald Taylor. Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
