Officiating was Rev. Alfred Mitchell, and Dr. Arnold Nelson. Interment was in Highland Cemetery in Mansfield. Mr. Spears passed away Sunday, November 27, 1994, at DeSoto General Hospital, Mansfield. He was born in Bethel Community in Logansport, and was a resident of Mansfield. He worked as a Logging Foreman for Matthews Lumber Co., for 28 years, and served as a DeSoto Parish Deputy Sheriff for 12 years, under the late Sheriff M. Van Austin, and J. J. McFadder. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Irene Key Spears; son, James Ellis Spears; brothers, Clarence, and Erskin Spears; sisters, Velma Spears, Novell Caldwell, and Elma Bogle. Survivors are his son, Billy Spears and wife Billie of Converse; daughter, Linda Gayle Sebren and husband Donnie of Noble; sister, Gaye Permenter of Gary, Tex.; grandchildren, Wesley Sebren, Melissa Sebren, Lori Sebren, Brandon Spears, Jennifer Spears, Chasen Goulke, Joshua Harmon, and Misty Harmon. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Donald Taylor, and Dr. Ben Leggio, Henry Clements, and Marshall Calhoun.
