All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Elizabeth Sheppard Services were at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 1, in Osborn Funeral Home Chapel, for Mrs. Elizabeth Hart Sheppard of Shreveport, who died Saturday, at Virginia Hall Nursing Home, after a long illness. Officiating was Rev. Carl Crenshaw, associate pastor of Morningside Baptist Church, assisted by Dr. Billy Smith, pastor of Southside Baptist Church. Burial was to follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Sheppard began the first school of practical nursing in Louisiana at the Shreveport-Bossier Vocational Technical Center. She retired from the Vo-Tech Center in 1973, after 25 years of service. She was an instructor, and head of the practical nursing program when she retired. A native of Powhatan, she was a Robeline High School graduate, and obtained her B.A. degree from Northwestern State College. She also was a graduate of the North Louisiana School of Nursing, and did graduate work in nursing education at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Before beginning her nursing career, Mrs. Sheppard taught English at Robeline High School. She also had served as a private duty office and staff nurse, and hospital supervisor. She was a member of the Golden Circle Bible Class of Morningside Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, W. C. Sheppard; one son, W. C. Sheppard Jr. of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. Willie Fay Anderson, and Mrs. Margaret Dufor, both of Shreveport, and Mrs. Irene Jones of Memphis, Tenn., and one grandson.
