Sasse, 81, of Zwolle were held in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Many at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2000, with Rev. John Karie of Christ of King Lutheran Church in Natchitoches officiating. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, at the Natchez National Cemetery in Natchez Mississippi. Mr. Sasse died Monday, April 10 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Mr. Sasse was born in Gresham, Neb. Following graduation from high school in Lynn, Kan., he proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, attaining the rank of chief aviation electrician. After retirement from the Navy, he worked at the Naval Air Station in Coronado, Calif., until his final retirement in 1975. One of his happiest moments was raising and showing standard smooth dachshunds in championship shows. He also loved camping and fishing. Walt had been a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Natchitoches since moving to Louisiana. He was instrumental in establishing Toledo Bend Lutheran Outreach, one of his hopes and joys. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Sasse; his mother, Martha Marie Sasse; and one sister, Anita Florence Milarch. Survivors include his beloved wife, Ruth Sasse, of Zwolle; one son, Rex Sasse, of Phoenix. Ariz.: one daughter, Karleen Braden, of Granada Hills, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grand children.
