V. Sistrunk of Mitchell, perished in an enemy submarine attack on April 6, 1942, which resulted in the sinking of the S. S. Oklahoma in the Atlantic ocean, it was announced this week. The deceased was a graduate of Oak Grove high school in Sabine parish of the class of 1941 and at the time of his death was employed by The Texas company in the maritime service attached to the S. S. Oklahoma. He is survived by his father, D. V. Sistrunk, school board member of ward ten Sabine parish, three brothers, Walker and D. Sistrunk of Port Arthur, Texas, and Corp. Allen Sistrunk of the U. S. Army; four sisters, Mrs. J. C. McCollough of Mitchell, Mrs. E. L. Craig of LaFitte, Miss, Nonie Sistrunk of North Louisiana sanitarium of Shreveport, and Mrs. Joe Sanders of Many.
