Hall. Officiating as Rev. Richard Teeter. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. Strickland died Thursday, August 1, at his residence in Many. He served his country honorably during time of war, in the United States Navy. He served in the Korean Conflict. He was 100 percent disabled at the time of his retirement. Even though he was disabled, Mr. Strickland worked for 20 years with the Federal Aeronautical Association. In 1985, he moved to Many, and joined the DAV. Mr. Strickland was instrumental in the Voluntary Driver's Program, transporting veterans to and from the VA Hospital in Shreveport. He received an award for the thousands of miles he logged on the highways in service. In 1991, Mr. Strickland became Commander of Chapter 21 of the DAV in Many, a position he was very proud of. He also served as Executive Committeeman for the Dept. of La. DAV. "Don't Make an excuse to be absent; make an excuse to be there" was his motto. He considered fellowship with his comrades in the highest esteem. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Zwolle; a lifetime member of the Toledo Lion's Club, and Commander of the D.A.V., and was elected veteran of the year for 1990. Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Rubye Strickland of Many; one son, Tim Strickland, also of Many; two daughters, Diana Hunt of Las Vegas, Nev., and Paula Clark of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Lorene Suffridge of Tulsa, Okla., Millie A. Cress of Mustang, Okla., and Estell Hartsfield of Ft. Smith, Ark.; one grandson, Thomy Jones; five granddaughters, Dawn, and Jaimie Jones, Ashley Hunt, Tomi, and Teri Strickland.
