L. stewart, 47, a former assistant U. S. Attorney in Shreveport for 15 years, were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, in the Ford Park Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart of Shreveport, was dead on arrival at 3:50 a.m. Thursday, at Schumpert Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Florien, and had been a resident of Shreveport for the past 16 years. He was a member of the Western Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart was past potentate of the El Karubah Temple, Scottish and York Rites. He was a graduate of Tulane Law School, was a member of the American Bar Association, and the Louisiana Bar Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the American Legion. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Mr. Carmel. Masonic graveside rites were held at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Officiating in the services were the Rev. Eugene Spruell, pastor of Western Hills Baptist Church in Shreveport, assisted by Dr. George Hearn of Louisiana Baptist College, and Dr. Harold McNabb of Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City. Survivors include his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Stewart Sr. of Florien; two sons, Ronnie Stewart of College Park, Md., and Bill Stewart with the U. S. Marine Corps of Quantico, Va.; a daughter, Janis Stewart, a student of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches; two sisters, Elouise Thaxton of Natchitoches, and Iris Weldon of Many; and four brothers, G. D. Stewart Jr. of Shreveport, Sammy Stewart and Lee R. Stewart, both of Florien, and Grover Stewart of Winnfield. Pallbearers were B. J. Whitaker, Gus Weaver, Judge Ben C. Dawkins Jr., Don Moseley, Ed Boagnie, Dosite Perkins, Jim Franklin, and Gordon Gipson Sr. The family requests that any memorial contribution be made to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children.
