Carmel Baptist church, Rev. Martin Smith officiated, assisted by Rev. Ray Brown. Massingill funeral home directing, interment Mt. Carmel cemetery. Surviving are: husband, J. R. Stewart, Robeline; two daughters, Mrs. T. E. Strain, Shreveport and Mrs. T. Mobley, Robeline; four brothers, Willie, Joe, Lee and Ira Self, all of Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Smith and Mrs. Willie Platte, Robeline, Mrs. Jim Nesom and Mrs. Mary Hardin, Texas and grandchildren, Mrs. E. T. Cutrer of Shreveport, Mrs. Richey of San Augustine, Fla., Cadet Thomas E. Strain, Jr., and James Robert Strain, New Orleans Medical school, Miss Lucy Strain, all of Shreveport; one great-grandchild, Marvin Thomas Cutrer, Bossier City. Pallbearers were: Joe Smith, Joe Crockett, J. P. Clower, Victor Salter, Ellis and Redic Stewart.
