Dr. Strother died Sunday, July 12, of a heart attack. He was 89. A native of Sabine Parish, Dr. Strother taught at Oak Grove High School near Converse, for a number of years, and coached the ball teams. He was a retired Southern Baptist missionary to China and Malaya. A graduate of Louisiana College, he held a PhD degree from New Orleans Seminary. Survivors include his sons, Dr. Joe Strother, head of La. Tech's School of Art and Architecture, and G. W. Strother Jr. of Brazoria, Tex.; two daughters, Miriam Gordon of Doylestown, Penn., and Joyce Carpenter of Seneca, S. C.; one sister, Nellie Strother of Shreveport; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife. Over the years Dr. Strother had authored several books.
