Stewart, 92, of Ruston, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, in Monroe, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at First Baptist Church in Ruston, with interment following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden. Dr. David Leavell officiated. Mr. Stewart was born on Nov. 29, 1908, in Bienville Parish, and grew up in Sibley. He was a graduate of Sibley High School, and Meadow Draughn Business School in Shreveport. He was employed as manager of Sabine Gas Company in Many, from 1934 to 1961. From 1961 until his retirement, he was employed by W. F. Pearce Insurance Agency in Ruston. James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ruston, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Adult 9 Sunday School class. He was also Chairman of the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Many. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Martha Felts Stewart of Ruston; daughters and husbands, Ann and Ralph McMickle of Monroe, Candy and M. B. Nolen of Sicily Island; sister, Zillah Burson of Minden; grandchildren, Lindy and Doug Peterson of The Woodlands, Texas, Stewart and Laura McMickle of Doha, Qutar, Scott and Lara McMickle of Atlanta, Ga., Heather and Mark Clark of Houston, Texas, Missy and Barry Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., Jessica Ann Nolen of Sicily Island; and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jacob Pearce, G. W. James Jr., Reggie Haenchey, Bill Best, Billy Leachman, and Skip Russell.
