Self, 79, of Shreveport, were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 10, at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Dr. F. D. Chrisawn, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiated. Burial and graveside services were at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, at Springridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Mr. Self, born in Pleasant Hill, and a resident of Shreveport for 50 years, died at 5:30 a.m., Friday, October 8, at LSU Medical center, after a sudden illness. He was a retired carpenter, and a member of the Pine Croft Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Lillian Self of Shreveport; sons, Elbert Lee Self of Beaumont, Tex., Herbert R. Self of Shreveport, La., and Earl E. Self of Baton Rouge, La.; daughters, Sandra Cortez of Pueblo, Colo., and Kathy A. Martin of Midwest City, Okla.; stepdaughter, Dorothy Spence of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Charlie Self and Wesley Self of Many; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
