She was identified as Joyce Faye Self, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mann Self. The Sheriff's Department received the call at 6:15 p.m., and Deputy Ben DuBose was dispatched to the scene. Just prior to his arrival, the youth's body was pulled from the creek. The Self family, which included four other children, had been swimming in the creek, when Mrs. Self noticed that Joyce was missing. The coroner was notified, and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The death was ruled as accidental drowning.
