Logan Jones Skiles (Photo) Former pastor of the Antioch Baptist Church of Florien, the Rev. Logan Jones Skiles of DeRidder, died at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, at his residence. He was 70. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Dry Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lynn Clayton, and the Rev. Brad Bickham officiating. Burial followed in the Bernice Cemetery, under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home. A native of Eldon, Missouri, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, and moved to DeRidder in 1969. He had been pastor for a number of churches, including Olivet Baptist Church in Sulphur, and the Moss Bluff Baptist Church. He pastored Florien's Antioch Baptist Church in the 1960's. He was presently pastor at Dry Creek Baptist Church. He was on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, and was moderator, budget chairman, and stewardship chairman for the Beauregard Baptist Association. The Rev. Skiles served on the Board of the Baptist Student Union at McNeese State University, and the Beauregard Memorial Hospital Board in DeRidder. He held an honorary doctorate from Union Seminary in Monroe, and had taught extension courses for 17 years, in the Beauregard and Vernon Baptist Associations. Survivors include his widow, Redia Smith Skiles; one son, Michael Skiles of New Orleans; two daughters, Martha Paloquin(?) of Rusk, Tex.; and Marion Skiles of DeRidder; two sisters, Hazel Skiles Hees, and Helen Skiles Reed, both of Eldon, Mo.; one brother, Victor Edward Skiles of Goodman, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
