Slaughter, 69, died Saturday, July 15, at his residence near Many, after a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. in the Warren Meadows Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Reeves officiating. Burial was in the Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport. Graveside services were also held at 3 p.m., in Shreveport, with the Warren Meadows Funeral Home directing. Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Lola Slaughter of Many; one son, Melvin George Slaughter of New York State; five daughters, Mrs. Sue Williams of Shreveport, Mrs. Patricia Rose of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Linda Statton, and Mrs. Vida Mae Bush, both of Houston, and Mrs. Gloria Richey of Beaumont; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Jones of Beaumont, Mrs. Ila Hogg of Longview, Mrs. Sally Tinker of Kingsburg, and Mrs. Opal Rogers of Illinois; and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Slaughter was retired from the Texas Eastern Corp.
