All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Thomas Shelton Funeral services were held at the Our lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial, for Thomas Holtzman Shelton, 73, who died in his residence on Monday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. Interment was held in the Lafayette Memorial Cemetery. Shelton was born in Monroe, and was the son of the late Thomas J. Shelton, and Jeanette Holtzman. He was a native of Shreveport, and moved to Lafayette in 1929, when he became manager of the new Evangeline Motel. He subsequently went into the oil business, becoming one of the leading oil and gas brokers in the state. After his retirement from active business in 1954, he became a consultant to various phases of the oil business. Survivors include his wife, Melba Terry Shelton of Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Henry H. Boutte of Lafayette, and Mrs. Roger Wilson of Many; one son, Thomas Robert Shelton of Lafayette; three sisters, Mrs. Malcom Clack, and Mrs. James Alexander, both of Amarillo, Tex., and Mrs. Richard S. Lake of New Orleans; and seven grandchildren.
