All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Bessie Salter Services for Mrs. Bessie Alice Salter, 85, of Van, Texas, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, in Hilliard Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Day officiating. Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Salter died Thursday, Oct. 19, in a Tyler hospital, after a short illness. Mrs. Salter lived in Van since 1959. She was a member of Van Baptist Church, a charter member of Order of the Eastern Star, and a housewife. She was a native of Robeline. Survivors include one son, Ray "Tiny" Salter of Van; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Neil of Van; two brothers, M. D. Varnado, and John Varnado, both of Louisiana; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Goodman of Louisiana; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Harold Morris, Jim Kennedy, Marshall McGrady, Gaston Morris, Dadus Fowler, Ben Hudgens, Aubrey Ellison, Cecil Pyron, and Ed Russell.
