All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** James Douglas Salter Funeral services for James Douglas Salter, 77, were held at the Aimwell Baptist Church, on Friday, August 26, at 11 a.m. Rev. Charles Duncan officiated. Burial was in the Aimwell Cemetery. Mr. Salter passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 1994, at the V.A. Hospital in Alexandria. Mr. Salter was retired from the Military Air Force, having served in WWII, where he became a prisoner of war. He was involved in the initial frontal assault of the Japanese Army during the invasion of the Philippine Islands, and was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Survivors are two sons, Johnny Salter, and Michael Salter, both of Shreveport; one daughter, Frances Bland of Shreveport; two sisters, Bertha Stroud of West Lake, and Audrey Palmer of Houston; one brother, George Salter Jr. of Negreet; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Salter was preceded in death by wife, LaMoyne Salter; parents, George Salter Sr., and Minerva Gandy Salter; two sisters, May Gray, and Josie Miller; two brothers, Robert R. Salter, and William A. Salter.
