Shanks, 56, of Fisher, died at Mountain Home, Ark., Wednesday, April 19, after a short illness. Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Ethel M. Shanks of Fisher; three sons, Paul Shanks of Many, Earl Shanks of Hornbeck, and Darrell Shanks of Fisher; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Lewing and Mrs. Verna Lee Hammons, both of Many, and Mrs. Claudie Carver of Foreman, Ark.; his father, John Shanks of Hardin, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Helen Seamon of Hardin, Ill., and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m., at the Lewing Chapel Church, with the Rev. B. L. Dinks, and the Rev. Melvin Smith officiating. Interment was in the Shady Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. The Rev. Shanks was a World War II Veteran, and served overseas as a Corporal. While serving his country, he received seven medals. The Rev. and Mrs. Shanks were married in Jerseyville, Ill. in 1937, and moved to Sabine Parish where he first served as Pastor at the Congregational Methodist Church at Lewing Chapel, under the Rev. C. W. Adams, now deceased. One of their sons, James Brian, died in 1958.
