Poimboeuf of Pleasant Hill, ruled the shooting death of Douglas W. Sneed, 34, of Hornbeck, as a suicide on Monday, May 2, according to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department. According to the reports, Sneed entered Hodges Gardens at approximately 4 p.m. Monday afternoon. Minutes later, his body was discovered lying on the shoulder of the road by Jack Hodges. Hodges rushed to the main gate and telephoned the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department to report the tragedy. Seventeen minutes later, deputies were on the scene. They discovered the body of Sneed lying near the road. Sneed apparently shot himself with a 300 magnum high powered rifle shortly after entering the gardens. The coroner ruled the time of death at 4 p.m. Sneed is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nita W. Sneed of Hornbeck; two sons, Douglas W. Sneed Jr., and Todd Sneed, both of Hornbeck; one daughter, Mrs. Valerie Brown of Baytown, Tex.; one grandson; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sneed of Hornbeck; and three sisters, Mrs. Lenelle Mattox of Anacoco, Mrs. Floy Mae Byrd of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Fae Brown of Shreveport. Funeral services were held at Prewitt's Chapel on Wednesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Graham officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
