Smith, age 105. was conducted at Warren Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m., Friday, April 11, with Rev. John Koelemay officiating. Interment was in Pisgah Cemetery near Belmont, with Warren Funeral Home in charge. Survivors are daughter, Mrs. Janis Rains of Bossier City; two grandsons, Joe Ashley of Shreveport, George H. Thomas of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Mrs. Louise Hall of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Viola Mathis of Bossier City; seven great grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith's life began in Selma, Ala., before the outbreak of the Civil War. She was born Oct. 26, 1852. She spent most of her life in Sabine Parish, at Pleasant Hill and Belmont, before her marriage and residence in Many. For the past several years, she was a resident of a nursing home, where she celebrated her 101st birthday in 1953, attended by a host of friends and relatives. Attendants at the nursing home where Mrs. Smith died, recall the pleasure with which she received the huge surprise 101st birthday cake five years ago. It was inscribed "Happy Birthday Grandmother." A gift from her only living daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
