  Martha Elizabeth Sandel, 77, of Florien, died Jan. 19, 2003, at
Sabine Medical Center.

  Mrs. Sandel was an active member of Gandy Baptist Church. She
taught Sunday School for most of her adult life. She was a loving
mother and aunt, and had numerous nieces, nephews, and loving
friends, and she was known as "Granny" to everyone. The family
would like to thank everyone for their support during her
illness.

  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 21, at Gandy Baptist
Church, with interment following at White City Cemetery in
Hornbeck. The Rev. Mike Henderson, and the Rev. Kenneth Baggs
officiated.

  Survivors include her husband, Luther Sandel of Florien; three
sons, Harvey Earl Mitchell and wife Doris of Otis, and Muriel
Mitchell and wife Bertha, and Mike Mitchell and wife Susie, all
of Hornbeck; grandchildren, Missy Cabra, Christy Crooks, Amanda
Mitchell, Kenny Mitchell, Harvey Mitchell Jr., Jody Mitchell,
Issac Mitchell, Andy Mitchell, and Robbie Mitchell; great
grandson, Mitchell Crooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and
friends.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Mitchell.

  Pallbearers were Harvey Mitchell, Muriel Mitchell, Mike
Mitchell, Kenny Mitchell, Jody Mitchell, Isaac Mitchell, and Andy
Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Cheat Martin, Steven Martin,
Stuart Martin, Joey McMillian, Mark Laurence, Harvey Earl
Mitchell Jr., Robert Cabra, and Clint Cooks.
