All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Michael Herbert Small 17 Sep 1970 - Fifteen-year-old Michael Herbert Small of Fisher was killed instantly Sunday afternoon when he was hit by a car traveling at a high rate of speed. According to State Trooper Wingate Dowden, the Small boy was traveling west on his motorcycle in Fisher and was attempting to make a turn in front of the Baptist Church when he was hit by the truck, going east, driven by ******* * ****, 24 year-old of Florien. The Small boy was in Hunt's lane of traffic when hit. Dowden said that he was knocked out of his helmet and shoes and about 150 feet down the street. The motorcycle landed about 50 feet farther past him. Funeral services for the youth were held in Fisher Baptist Church Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell and the Rev. Earl Marr officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Pallbearers were Pete Anderson, Ed McDaniel, Bobby Lockwood, Ralph Russell, Jack House and Bucky Slay. Surviving relatives include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Small of Fisher, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Orchid of Many, Mrs. Juanita Bush of Winnie, Texas and Miss Mammie Dell Small of Leesville.
