He was 28. Gunnar was born Oct. 6, 1970, in Shreveport. He was a roofer, and a volunteer fireman for the Sardis Fire Department. He had previously attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Survivors include his mother, Cynthia Annette Warren of Marthaville; his father, James A. Simmons Jr. of Fort Smith; three brothers, James Alvin Simmons III of Colorado Springs, Matthew Owen Simmons of Marthaville, and Christian Anthony Simmons of Fort Smith; and his grandparents, James Alvin Simmons, and Judith Ellen "Shipe" Simmons of Sardis. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Friday, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sardis, with the Rev. Rick Porter officiating. Burial followed at McPhearson Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation was set from 7 - 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Asby Funeral Home.
