"Red" Shirley, 69, of Monterey, were held Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Lismore Baptist Church in Monterey, with the Rev. Paul Stephens, the Rev. Larry Eubanks, the Rev. Bill Robertson, the Rev. C. D. Beard, and the Rev. Mac Walker officiating. Interment followed in Lismore Baptist Church Cemetery in Monterey, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday. Rev. Shirley died Monday, Nov. 28, at LaSalle general Hospital in Jena. He was a retired minister, having served as pastor to the following churches: Cross Roads Baptist, Marthaville, Christian Harmony, Natchitoches, New Era Baptist Church, Lismore Baptist Church, Monterey, Robeline Baptist Church, Robeline, Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Gilbert, and Magnolia Baptist Church, Winnsboro. In addition, through the years, he held revivals at many churches in Sabine Parish. He was a mason, and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Rev. Shirley was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Shirley; brother, Roy G. Shirley; son, Richard Kent Shirley; in-laws, E. E. and Atla Gentry. Survivors include his wife, Atla Mae Shirley, Monterey; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gilbert McMillin, Monterey; three sons, David Wayne Shirley, Wildsville, James Windell and wife Terri Ann Shirley, Terry Lynn and wife Sheila Shirley, all of Winnsboro; nine grandchildren, Shana, Landon, Karla, ?la, Kevin, and Travis Shirley, Anita Murry, Jason and Crystal McMillin; three brothers, Marvin Shirley, Aztec, N.M., Robert W. Shirley, Winnfield, E. D. Shirley, Natchitoches. Pallbearers were Bro. Jerry Chapman, Bro. Earl Miles, Bro. Jerry Hunt, Bro. Mickey Bounds, Bro. Terry Ganey, Raymond Gene Beard, and David McGuffee. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Jason McMillin, Landon Shirley, Kevin Shirley, Travis Shirley, Curtis Murry, and all ministers. Memorials may be made to the Gideons, or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
