"Bill" Shirley Sr., 89, of DeRidder, were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 15, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in DeRidder. Rev. Roger Gill, and Rev. J. N. foreman officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in DeRidder, under the direction of Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Home in DeRidder. Mr. Shirley passed away, Wednesday, December 14, 1994, at 2 p.m., in Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. Mr. Shirley was a lifelong resident of DeRidder, and the Beauregard Parish area. He was a retired Principal, Teacher, and girls and boys Basketball Coach. He was the Boys Basketball Coach at Dry Creek in 1931, when the boys basketball team won the state championship. He served as Girls Basketball Coach at Sugartown High School, and Singer High school. He served as Principal of Sugartown High, Singer High School, and Hyatt High School. He was a member, and Deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Survivors are two sons, W. E. "Billy" Shirley Jr., and Charles L. Shirley, both of DeRidder; one daughter, Gail Leach of Ft. Jesup; one brother, Calvin H. Shirley of DeRidder; two sisters, Vernice Richardson, and Juanita Welborn, both of DeRidder; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
