Mrs. Shirley, 79, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Survivors include one sister, Willie Mae Cryer Ross and husband Allen "Tink" Ross of Many; four daughters, Barbara Stroud Kelly and husband Joe of Bethel, N. C., Reba Stroud Tarpley and husband Dan of Many, Dolores Stroud Peretik and husband Mark of Phoenix, Ariz., and Patti Peterson Tannehill and husband Brian of Many; 12 grandchildren, Barry Strickland and wife Belinda of Hornbeck, Steve Strickland and wife Kristie of Selma, N. C., Deana Tarpley Wilde and husband David of Huntington, Texas, Grant Tarpley and wife Jennifer of Fort Hood, Texas, Vince Kelly and wife Jacqueline of Greenville, N. C., Tabitha Tarpley Masters of Many, Nic McCormic of Lafayette, Ashley Tarpley Veuleman and husband Buddy "Bugs" Veuleman Jr. of Many, Sara Tannehill of Natchitoches, Max Tannehill of Many, Jonette Peretik of Keithville, and Carrie Peretik of Phoenix, Ariz. Survivors also include 10 great grandchildren, Cody, and Logan Wilde of Huntington, Texas, Cody Strickland, Kacey Caldas, Shay Caldas, and Taylor Caldas of Hornbeck, Sydni Veuleman of Pitkin, Micha, and Gauge Tarpley of Fort Hood, Texas, and Dylan Masters of Many. Officiating were the Rev. Kenneth Leach, the Rev. E. E. Walker, and the Rev. Charlie Crews. Bugs Veuleman accompanied by Mrs. Roma Veuleman provided music. Pallbearers were Mrs. Shirley's six grandsons, Barry Strickland, Steve Strickland, Grant Tarpley, Vince Kelly, Nic McCormic, and Mac Tannehill; and her two nephews, Oscar Ross, and Tom Tom Cryer. Honorary pallbearers included George Dugger, Kenneth Marks, Shelly Wiggins, Al McCurdy, and Alfice Brumley. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Beulah Cemetery Fund, Inc., 31665 Hwy 191, Many, Louisiana 71449, or First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 1000 Main Street, Many, Louisiana.
