Tackett, 81, died at Sabine Medical Center, Friday, August 31, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held in the Warren Meadows Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, with the Rev. E. E. Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Many Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Jannie Johnson Tackett of Many; two daughters, Pamela Tackett Curtis and husband John of Many, and Glenda Kay Zick and husband Don, all of Many; a sister, Josie Hamrick of Tyler, Texas; a son-in-law, Glen Brown of Many; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Remos Tackett; his mother, Linda West; a daughter, Barbara Brown; four brothers, Cleveland O. Tackett, Gerald J. Tackett, Bernie Tackett, and Hulen Tackett; and a sister, Kitty Tackett Wendt. Dr. Tackett was a very civic-minded individual, and was a servant of the people in numerous ways. He was a 32nd degree mason, and a co-founder of the Sabine Shrine Club. Doc was a member of the Many Civic Planning Commission. He was instrumental in establishing Many Hart Airport, and responsible for many of the improvements utilized by pilots today. Doc was a decorated veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Army. One of the greatest accomplishments of his life, besides his family, was his Chiropractic practice. Being able to ease the suffering of others gave him much joy. Pallbearers were his three grandsons, John Curtis Jr., Jess Curtis, Moses Curtis, and Steve Alford, Dan Alford, Tommy Andries, Danny McCormic, and Bucky Slay. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Alford, Kenneth Walker, Chane Rascoe, and Dr. David Horner. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
