Tatum Maudie Virginia Tatum, 57, long a major figure in Mansfield's public schools, died at 8 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, in Schumpert Hospital, after a brief illness. A native of Converse, she had resided in Mansfield most of her life. Miss Tatum earned the bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees with honors, from Baylor University, and taught for years in Mansfield public schools, later teaching kindergarten in Mansfield's First Baptist Church school. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of retired public schools teachers. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., at the Marshall Street Chapel of the Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 14. Dr. George Ritchey of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, and the Rev. Truman Kerr of Broadmoor Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in the Forest Park Cemetery. Survivors include two brothers, Dr. Scott Tatum, pastor of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and James D. Tatum, both of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. Sibyl Edwards of Converse, and Mrs. Marie Cunningham, and Mrs. Inez Webb, both of Dallas, Texas. Pallbearers were C. E. Hewitt, Cecil A. Flanders, Malon McCammon, J. W. Bennett, F. E. Bufkin, Hines E. Rogers Jr., Henry Hollowell, and Artel Howard.
