A Fisher native, he had lived in Lake Charles 37 years. He was the former owner of Stop-Mor Inc., and was president and founder of JM and F Convenience Stores. Mr. Tatum was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of South City Business Club, Quelqueshu Investment Club, Trinity Baptist Church, Shriners and Masonic Lodge 449. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Paul Tatum of Lake Charles; six daughters, Mrs. Dru Jarmon, Mrs. Jan Cuniff, Mrs. Kaye T. McCullouch, Mrs. Linda T. Radford, Mrs. Mae Brown Tatum, and Mrs. Mona Sarver, all of Lake Charles; a stepson, Hilary Calhoun of Savanah, Ga.; a brother, Paul Tatum of Lake Charles; three sisters, Mrs. Elaine Smallwood of Sulphur, Mrs. Elsie Edwards of Mansfield, and Mrs. Rita Dees of Lake Charles; and nine grandchildren. Services were held Thursday, June 19, at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jim Stroud officiating. Burial was in Consolata Cemetery.
