Tatum, a resident of Sabine Parish for more than 40 years, died in her sleep, at her home in Many, on Friday, Mar. 19, at the age of seventy five. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Many, on Sunday, March 21, by Dr. Kelly Fitzgerald, the pastor. Following the pastor's address, members of the Eastern Star presented a brief service in memory of Mrs. Tatum. Burial was in the Noble Cemetery. Mrs. Tatum was born in Alexandria on April 14, 1889. She lived in Sabine Parish during most of her adult life. For 26 1/2 years, she taught school in Sabine and Vernon Parishes. Mrs. Tatum's life was filled with purposeful activity, and was characterized by a pleasant attitude, and an open love for people. She made friends quickly, and quickly won from her friends a respect that grew with the years. She loved her church, and found her highest joy in serving Christ as a devoted worker in her church. Her heart was in missions, and she spent all of her adult life doing the work of a missionary in the area where she lived. She gave untiringly of herself in supporting the Women's Missionary Society in her church, and in giving guidance to all of it's auxiliary organizations. All who knew Mrs. Tatum will mourn her passing, and they will proudly admit that their lives have been enriched by her life. Her survivors include her husband, L. S. Tatum of Many; two daughters, Mrs. O. B. Cross of Shreveport, and Mrs. Phil Olinghouse of Little Rock, Arkansas; four brothers, Ben Seal of Shepard, Texas, Joe Seal of Silsbee, Texas, Alsae Seal of West Columbia, Texas, and Fred Seal of Daisetta, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Evia Davis of Leesville, and Mrs. Gertrude Jett of Baytown, Texas; and four grandchildren. Active pallbearers were F. T. Mallory, L. S. Fleming, T. M. Phillips, Clarence Foy, Roy Alford, Vert Ellison, Garland Vines, and J. O. Kimbell. Serving as honorary pallbearers were S. M. Taylor, W. T. Parrot, Dr. S. F. Fraser, Dr. Warren Founds, Dr. Fred Thomas, C. D. Worsham, Alene Julian, Thomas Self, Judge John Pickett, Judge William Ponder, J. W. Wright, Fred Ingram, J. P. Godfrey, Eustace Edwards, and Duke Beasley.
