Sunday afternoon, she started experiencing pains in her knee. The pain worked it's way up to her hip before they called a doctor. The doctor ordered an ambulance, but Mrs. Taylor was pronounced dead on arrival at the Beaumont Hospital. The apparent cause of death was listed as a particle of something lodged in the blood vessels. Mrs. Taylor was born on Feb. 4, 1909, in Many, to the late George L. and Mary L. Jackson of Many. Mrs. Taylor's father, George L. Jackson, was elected Tax Assessor of Sabine Parish in 1908, and served in that office by being elected without opposition, until his retirement. Mrs. Taylor's life was centered around the Tax Assessor's office. For 28 years, she served as Chief Deputy Tax Assessor, under her late brother, Robert Burns Jackson. In 1956, she decided to run for the office of Tex Assessor, to succeed her brother. Mrs. Taylor was elected in the first primary. She was re-elected without opposition for the four terms. Mrs. Taylor married the late S. M. Taylor in 1941. He was a veteran of WWII, and served as Chief Deputy Tax Assessor, until his death in 1965. Devoted to her work as Tax Assessor, Carro Jackson Taylor found little time to be a "joiner", but if anyone needed help, she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the La. Tax Assessor's Association, Many-Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce, and the First Methodist Church of Many. Mrs. Taylor is survived by two brothers, Fred Jackson of Converse, and Jim Jackson of Houston; five sisters, Mrs. Lena Stephens, Beaumont, Mrs. Norma King, Mrs. Daisy Perkins, and Mrs. George Langford, all of Many, and Mrs. Mary Evelyn Kilgore, Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the First Methodist Church of Many, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Sirman officiating. Burial was at the Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Conrad Cathy, E. L. Edwards, George Jackson, J. D. Nichols, Judge William Ponder, and Keith Jackson.
