All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Tompkins Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Tompkins of Many, died at the Sabine Medical Center on Sunday, Apr. 13, at 10:59 p.m. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Many, on Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Joe Ratcliff officiating. Burial was in Many Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. She received a B. A. degree from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, La., and a M. A. degree from Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, Texas. Mrs. Tompkins was a teacher in the public schools for 42 years, and taught 5 years in the Catholic schools. She was a member of the Many Book Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, was a very active Lioness, and a very active member of the first Baptist Church of Many, teaching Sunday School for over 23 years. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Horace Tompkins of Many; four sons, Victor H. Tompkins of Baton Rouge, Norman T. Tompkins, M.D. of Dallas, Tex., J. Stanley Tompkins of Lafayette, and Ronald G. Tompkins, M.D. of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Ethel Griffin of Jonesville; one brother, Wise McFerrin of Pleasant Hill; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Hollis Bray, DDS, Vernice Calvin Wright, Robby Lang, W. E. "Boots: Hayes, Melvin Wright, Kenneth Freeman, Bob Cole, Stan Russell. Honorary pallbearers were the Sabine State Bank Board of Directors, and grandchildren, Michael Edward Tompkins, mark Roby Tompkins, Mary Kate Tompkins, Jane Ane Tompkins, Carolyn Elizabeth Tompkins, Norman Terry Tompkins, Jr., Kimberly Irene Tompkins, Amy Elizabeth Tompkins, and Catherine Ann Tompkins.
