Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Many. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. Pallbearers will be Joey Basco Jr., Ben Barnhill Jr., Brent McMillian, Jim Quayhagen, Marvin Adams, and Todd Lientzen. Mrs. Thompson died on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, following a lengthy illness. She was 76. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Eula Basco of Many; one niece; and husband, Stephanie and Benny Barnhill of Many; three nephews and wives, John Russell and Bernice Basco of Harvey, Darien and Margaret Basco of Many, and Tom and Patsy Basco of Belle Chasse; a host of great nieces and nephews, and friends. Born in Leesville, she was one of two daughters born to Drewie William Newman, and Eula Stephens Newman. She graduated from Leesville High school in 1933, and attended La. Normal College in Natchitoches for a year. She graduated from Tyler Business College in 1935, and accepted a position with the La. Senate as a secretary that same year. It was in her position with the Senate, that she met and married her husband, former Congressman T. A. Thompson of Ville Platte. Mrs. Thompson was employed with the prestigious law firm of Breazeale, Sachse, and Wilson in Baton Rouge, for 36 years. She retired in 1989. She traveled extensively in Europe and England in her younger years. In Baton Rouge, she was a member of the Arts and Crafts Council, and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
