All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Lou Audrey Vercher Thomas Lou Audrey Vercher Thomas, 85, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Bossier City, at Summit Hospital, of complications from Guillian-Berre' disease. Survivors include her son, William Edward Thomas Jr. of Pleasant Hill and wife Jane Jeffress Thomas; two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; Melyssa Gault Snelling and her husband Terrell Dean Snelling; and their children, Dwight "Lee" Laurence, Emily Anna Snelling, and Terrell Thomas Snelling of Converse. Also, Benjamin Heath Gault and wife Christina "Clariss" Imhoff Gault; and their children, Benjamin Kenneth Gault, and Gunnar Matthew Gault of Pleasant Hill. Special grandchildren, Ike, Sherryl, and J. V. Lafitte of Mansfield also survive Mrs. Thomas. Lou Audrey was born on June 22, 1915, in Campti, to Ellen and Louis "Jack" Maxmillian Vercher. Her aunts raised her in Campti after she was orphaned. She was a graduate of Tri-State Hospital Nursing School (Willis-Knighton Hospital) in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Thomas Sr., and by her parents. She was an RN for 60 years, serving at Willis-Knighton Hospital as charge nurse, Zwolle Hospital in Zwolle, Veteran's Hospital in Shreveport, and was a nurse for Dr. C. E. Poimboeuf in Pleasant Hill. A Mass of Christian burial was held at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., Oct. 24. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Monsignors Earl Provenza, Mary Queen of Peace in Bossier City, and Norman Buvens, chaplain at Schumpert Medical Center concelebrated the mass. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude for the loving care she received at Regency House Assisted Living in Alexandria; Green Meadow Haven in Coushatta, the nursing staffs at the Summit Hospital on the three occasions she was there, the nursing staff at Willis-Knighton Hospital, 5-E. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Haynie, and the doctors who helped her through this lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to their own church, charity of their choice, or the Gullian-Barre' Foundation. Pallbearers were Jerry Snelling, Terrell Dean Snelling, Lloyd Hardee, Cliff Poimboeuf, Gene Poimboeuf, and Pete Scott. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Spann, and Curt Nix.
