Thomas, 59, died at 6:55 Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in a Lake Charles hospital. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 17, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with interment following at Consolata Cemetery. The Rev. Monsignor Ronnie Groth officiated. Mr. Thomas was born in Albuquerque, N. M., and was raised in Tioga. He was a graduate of Tioga High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Louisiana State University for 1964. He received his Jurist Doctorate Degree from Louisiana State University School of Law in 1967. He was a practicing attorney in Lake Charles for the past 34 years. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and was elected to the House of Delegates (1971-1991), and the Board of Governors (1991-1993). He was a member of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, where he served as a member of the Advisory Committee, Board of Governors, and the Executive Committee. Mr. Thomas was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, the Louisiana Bar Foundation, and the Joint Legislative Study Committee for Alternative Dispute Resolution. Mr. Thomas was also a member, and past president of the Southwest Louisiana LSU Alumni Association, the LSU Alumni Association, the LSU Foundation, and the LSU Law School Alumni Association. He was a former member of the Lake Charles Kiwanis Club, the Young Men's Business Club, past member of the Lake Charles, Calcasieu, and Louisiana Democratic Central Committees, Board of Commissioners, Sabine River Authority, where he served as secretary, vice chairman, member of the Executive Committee, and Finance Committee chairman. Mr. Thomas was also a member of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Gulf Coast Conservation Association, B.A.S.S., and Operation Bass. Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth Sheridan Thomas of Lake Charles; three sons, William Thomas of Baton Rouge, Trey Hardy, and Bobby Thomas, both of Lake Charles; one daughter, Stephanie Keigley of Sulphur; mother, Bernice Thomas of Lake Charles; sister, Diane Moore of Albuquerque, N. M.; and two grandchildren, Kale Keigley, and Tyler Thomas. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
