John P. Thorp

  John P. Thorp, 78, of Shreveport, died Saturday morning, July
29, at his residence, following a long illness.

  Mr. Thorp, a native of Mansfield, was a 50 year resident of
Shreveport. He was a retired hardware salesman, and was a charter
member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he was a former
vestryman. Services were at 11 a.m., Monday, July 31, in St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. James C. Buckner, rector,
officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery, under the
direction of Osborn Funeral Home.

  Mr. Thorp is survived by his widow, Holly Parsons Thorp of
Shreveport; two daughters, Ora Katherine Young of Noble, and Anna
Lee Bryant of Shreveport; and five grandchildren.

  Pallbearers were J. P. Honaker, W. T. Honaker, Charles S. Thorp,
John Gray Thorp, J. Chris Swift, W. R. Gay, W. B. Holley, and W.
E. Drummond, Honorary pallbearers will be the vestry of St.
Paul's.

  The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Paul's
Episcopal Church, or the First Methodist Church.
